The Ijebu Kingdom has been thrown into mourning following the official announcement of the passing of its revered monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebu Land.
Born on May 10, 1934, Oba Adetona ascended the throne in 1960 and until his death, was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning traditional rulers. A proud son of Prince Rufai Adetona and Alhaja Ajibabi Adetona (née Onashile), the late monarch hailed from the distinguished Anikinaiya ruling house of Ijebu Ode.
His reign was marked by wisdom, influence, and a firm commitment to the unity and progress of Ijebuland. As at the time of filing this report, the cause of his transition is yet to be made public.
This is indeed the end of an era. More details to follow.
