In recognition of their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honored Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with substantial rewards. Each player received100,000, a national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), and a plot of land.

The announcement was made during a special reception at the State House in Abuja on Monday evening. Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Tinubu, conveyed the nation’s gratitude to the team. First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila were also in attendance.

The coaching and technical crew were similarly acknowledged, each receiving $50,000, a national honour, and a plot of land.

D’Tigress secured their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title—and seventh overall—by defeating Mali 78–64 in the final held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

This gesture mirrors President Tinubu’s earlier recognition of the Super Falcons, who were similarly rewarded following their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
