Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is being questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of financial misconduct involving about N432 billion. El-Rufai, who governed Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023, arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja to honor an invitation from the commission.
The investigation is part of ongoing probes into claims of financial mismanagement during his administration, including allegations of mismanaged or unauthorized loans. El-Rufai has denied the allegations, claiming they are politically motivated. The EFCC investigation, which began in 2024, follows petitions from groups and the Kaduna Assembly.
Tension briefly flared at the EFCC headquarters as pro- and anti-El-Rufai demonstrators confronted each other. The EFCC has appealed for calm, assuring protesters that their petition would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.
