Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has stirred debate by saying that a secondary school certificate is sufficient qualification to run for political office or hold a political appointment in Nigeria. His statement came amid controversies surrounding Minister Uche Nnaji, whose claimed University of Nigeria (UNN) degree was reportedly disowned.

Court documents revealed that Nnaji never completed his university education and does not possess the degree he claimed. In response, Nnaji filed a suit against UNN and some officials, demanding they release his academic transcript. The court granted partial access to the documents but deferred the full hearing until October 6.
Sani cautioned politicians against forging or exaggerating their educational qualifications, warning that political opponents will always investigate and expose such falsehoods. He emphasized the importance of honesty for a smooth political career and urged Nigerians to understand that the law requires only a secondary school certificate for political ambitions.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about fake credentials among public officials in Nigeria and the need for transparency in governance.
