President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on young Nigerians active in digital media to use their platforms to build national unity and progress, rather than division. Speaking at the Progressives Digital Media Summit in Abuja, President Tinubu emphasized the need for responsible digital engagement, urging influencers to verify information before amplification and to create businesses and content that uplift and employ others.

“Your generation is shaping the future using digital tools to innovate, educate, and demand accountability,” Tinubu said. “But as your influence grows, so must our sense of responsibility. Use your platforms to foster unity, build businesses, create uplifting content, and contribute to our nation’s progress.”
The President praised the creativity and resilience of Nigerian youth, describing digital media as a major force in driving economic and social transformation. He assured attendees that his administration is committed to supporting digital innovation through funding and policies to encourage a thriving start-up ecosystem, while warning against the dangers of misinformation and cyber threats.
Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila commended digital practitioners who project Nigeria positively, describing them as the vanguard of a reborn nation moving toward greatness under President Tinubu’s leadership. Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, highlighted digital media’s role in influencing elections and its challenges, such as divisive content, misinformation, and deepfakes. He expressed hope that the summit would develop strategies to tackle fake news.
Summit convener Segun Dada noted that digital media has evolved into a powerful tool for innovation and influence in less than a decade. He stressed the importance of using this tool for national good while managing its risks.
The summit ended with calls for digital responsibility and greater collaboration to foster unity and progress in Nigeria.
